Founders Message February 2021

A new year, a new U.S. President, a woman as U.S. Vice President. With all that great possibility exists.  The question is, how will we step into that possibility?  What will we do to create more unity, more equity in leadership, more sense of hope and real chance for women to realize their potential, especially when so many of the lost jobs of the pandemic have been women’s jobs.

At 50/50 Leadership we have this question in mind when making every decision, large and small. On February 6th we will be looking at Racial (In)Equality and what each of us can do about it in our own lives.  In August we will be bringing together a diverse panel of speakers to speak about their experiences and what is being done, and what can be done, to bring us together.

Financial knowledge, stability and independence gives us agency over our lives in many ways, so as a way to level the playing field for young women who have grown up in adversity, our Money 101 program starts them on that road.  We are very excited to announce that in the next few months we will be reaching out to a wider audience of young women at college or early in their careers to provide both the basics of Money 101 and Demystifying Investments, a new program that explains the stock market, how to buy your first home, and the value and types of insurance.

Our volunteer base continues to grow, adding more talented people daily.  Do you have an extra hour every week?  Consider bringing your experience and talent and interests to the 50/50 Leadership team.

In this month of February where we celebrate the heart – please keep yours healthy, and consider how you can bring love to people in your life on each of the 28 days.  I would love to hear how you do.
