Business & Education

50.04% of the workforce in the United States is composed of women.1

Women earn 80% of what men earn.2 At the current rate of increase, it would take 40 years to achieve equal pay.3

Women hold only 24% of S&P 500 board positions and only 22.5% of Fortune 500 board positions.4

31% of full-time faculty in U.S. higher education are women (only a 5% increase over the past 75 years), and only 27% are tenured.5,6




Government & Law

Women make up 51% of the population in the U.S. but only an average of one-fourth of all legislative positions.7

Women in law enforcement make up about 15% of all state, municipal, and county police officers.8

Law students are nearly 50% female, but only 30% of all state judges are women and 8% are women of color.9

Female partners in law firms are paid up to 44% less than their male law partners.10




Violence Against Women

Approximately 1 in 3 women experience rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.15

69.5% of women who have been abused or stalked by a dating partner first experienced abuse between the ages of 11–24.16

Women ages 18–24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence, almost double the national average.17

1 in 4 female high school students, who have experienced sexual and physical abuse by a dating partner, have attempted suicide.18




Family Economics

After a divorce, women are more likely to suffer lost income, experience a lower standard of living, and have a higher poverty risk than men.11

Single mothers make up 80% of single-parent families, and 30% of them live under the poverty line.12

3% more elderly women than men live in poverty.13

The average monthly retirement benefit for men is approximately $300 more per month than for women.14
