Our New Mentorship Program!

By: Kristen Albertson

This summer, 50/50 Leadership is revamping and recommencing our mentorship program! Our mentorship program provides companionship and guidance to women who have completed and graduated from our Money 101 course.

Money 101 is a course provided by 50/50 Leadership that focuses on growth towards financial independence. You are eligible to take the Money 101 course if you identify as female and meet one or more of the following criteria:

●      you are a former foster youth who has “aged out” of the system;

●      you were formerly incarcerated;

●      you have a history of being unhoused; or

●      you have been a victim of gender-based violence.

Graduates of the Money 101 course are given the opportunity to join the mentorship program at the end of the final session. The mentorship program provides graduates with the tools to grow in their financial journey.

Once our mentees are matched with a mentor, the program will entail bi-weekly meetings for 30 minutes to an hour. Every other week, topics are provided for conversation to stimulate dialogue and encourage growth. These topics may cover everything from budgeting and financial objectives to career goals and hiring processes.

We are always looking for new mentors for the mentorship program! You don't need to be a financial expert to be a mentor. You just need to identify as a woman, be over 30 years of age, and have had some success in managing your own finances. All mentors must identify as women to build trust and solidarity with our female graduates. The commitment for the mentor position is no more than 2 hours per month alongside a 90-minute annual training session. We welcome graduates of our Money 101 course to apply to become mentors, as well!

Becoming a mentor is a great opportunity to make a real difference in a woman's life! If you are interested in our Money 101 course, please email us at info@5050leadership.org. If you would like to apply to be a mentor and meet our qualifications, please email us at volunteers@5050leadership.org. Let’s build women’s equity together!
